SmackDown vs Raw: August 1 & 2
Raw:
Intro:
Remember when SmackDown said that they will care about their superstars not the managment well, Raw took notice as the opening promo didn't feature a hardcore legend or million dollar princess instead it featured two stupid idiots and two certified g's. Sasha Banks would start the show as you might remember she captured the WWE Women's Title last week, so what a better way to get the crowd ready than a legit boss. Soon enough after some heartfelt words from the Boss, a prodigy would interrupt as Charlotte would come out without something, I mean she looked different but I can't just put my finger on it. The duo would clash setting up a match for SummerSlam but then Y2J entered the ring talking about how Bank's disrespect to the daughter of a legend was unacceptable, however everything would turn a head as the Certified G would enter the ring doing his dance and taking a chance. He would put Charlotte and Jericho to the side as Enzo would spit game at Sasha "How You Doin?" After disputes between the four a mixed tag team match would be set up with Enzo and Banks vs Charlotte and Jericho. Double Suicide Dive to Jericho and Charlotte from the G and Boss wouldn't prove enough as Jericho and Charlotte would come out on top after interference from Dana Brooke.
Main Concept:
The basics of the night would be to ride off the established storylines created from last week's Raw and the hype created as well. However, the important thing to remember to like this Raw is that that first Raw was one of the best Raw's of the decade so they can't just replicate it like that.
Tag Division:
First off let's discuss how much of an amazing match the Shining Stars vs Golden Truth was, it had everything. It had pure wrestling the Shining Stars are one of the best tag teams in the entire Raw roster at the moment along with the Golden Truth not far behind. Plus there was storytelling, the addiction of Pokemon Go for R-Truth had a compelling backstory behind it going all the way to his childhood. Using this as a way for Golden Truth to lose the match against the Shining Stars was poifect. Really though this was basically filler for the night and it was fine but please keep the Shining Stars away from any real tag team as they beat the Shining Stars.
Next, let's quote Stephanie McMahon "Lady Balls are a Hella Lot Bigger Than Testicles". Remember this through the next tag match.
Tag Team Action with the New Day (Without Woods due to his pulling of a banana) against the Club. The Match was simple, quick, and to the point with New Day coming out on top, but it was too quick, so much so that the post match assault would be the real highlight. An attack from behind by the Club would signal an Xavier signal but he was no match for the duo. To end the assault Gallows and Anderson would pull Big E crotch first into the steel post.
Women's Division:
Besides the first match of night being a mixed tag team match there was only one other match with that being a squash match. Nia Jax would compete against a woman by the name of Ariel Monroe and it would be a regular squash match with Nia Jax getting her moves in. The highlight of the match had to be when Nia Jax had Monroe on the top turnbuckle and clotheslined her off. After the match Byron Saxton asked Nia Jax "How does it feel to be in a WWE ring?", Jax answered by running straight into Ariel who was leaned up against the corner. She then followed up by telling Saxton to ask how Monroe is feeling.
Main Event:
Brock is Beast
Brock is Giant
Brock is Scary
Brock Lesnar is a mammoth of a man. He is the pure definition of what a barbarian is. Not only does he look intimidating when put up against any superstar on the WWE roster, not only does he wrestle stiffer than
RKO OUTTA NOWHERE!!!!
Yes, that is basically how the ending promo for Monday Night Raw was.
Paul Heyman made me actually excited for this match, I wasn't really hooked on it, I looked at it as a legend match, where two legends would clash for the sake of clashing but now I'm
RKO OUTTA NOWHERE!!!!
excited!
SmackDown:
Intro:
Kicking off by continuing from last week's SmackDown, Dean Ambrose would enter the ring and invite Dolph Ziggler to join him as well. Dolph would come in and play a face character respecting Dean Ambrose and praising him for how far he has come but all of that goody goodness would be crushed by Dean playing a heel character almost. This would almost be confirmed when Dean said "Yea Dolph You'll Steal the Show, and imma do what I do, because I know who I am, I'm a winner." Not to mention he crushed Dolph's emotional promo just by saying "You're not as good as you think you are." It's obvious Ziggler is going to go into SummerSlam the underdog and lose to Dean Ambrose but what's going to happen afterwards, well all was revealed a mere 10 seconds later when Bray Wyatt would do his littler sneak attack. After hitting a Sister Abigail on Dolph Ziggler he would challenge an unconscious Show Off to a match where if Ziggler were to lose he would also lose his chance at facing Dean to SummerSlam. After a backstage segment with Shane, Daniel, and Ziggler the match was set for the main event.
Main Concept:
Just as last week the whole show would circulate mainly around the WWE World Championship (Why Are They Calling it That?) and who will face Dean. Not only that but the rivalry between Orton and Lesnar is playing a massive role in not only Raw's show but Smackdown's as well.
Tag Division:
American Alpha debuted tonight on the main roster and they made one heck of an impact going against the Vaudevillians. It would be a typical match in the world of Alpha with Gable getting some mighty fine hits in but would ultimately fall in desperate need of a hot tag, so when Simon Gotch goes for a splash against the corner he would miss which allows Jordan to be tagged in and do his arm singlet thing taking care of everyone, tongue out with a spear into the corner. He tags Gable in for Grand Amplitude, then 1...2...3. American Alpha Everyone!
Women's Division:
The Women's Division had quite the scuffle today as there were literally no matches at all. First let's start off with Eva Marie vs Becky Lynch. Becky was in the ring already ready to take on a "wrestler" (She has improved but still did you hear the crowd). Coming into the ring there was heat coming from the back of Eva Marie it was evident the crowd was to the liking of Becky Lynch, so did Eva Marie wrestle good or was it a total flop? We would have to wait till next week as she suffered a "knee injury" right on the spot so the referee had to call off the match. It was an inventive way to give Eva Marie some good heat while still to maintain her wrestling skill. Next up we had Carmella taking on Natalya and unlike Becky and Eva the two didn't even reach the ring, as Natalya attacked Carmella while she was doing her entrance. It would set up a promising feud but still we would like some women's wrestling at least for the actual in ring debut please.
Other:
In the beginning of the night we would witness a Triple Threat Match for the chance to compete against Miz at SummerSlam for the IC title. The three competitors would be Baron Corbin vs Apollo Crews vs Kalisto.
*Going off topic but why would Kalisto be drafted to SmackDown when the cruisweight division is on Raw, Kevin Owens could've easily been a way better choice no disrespect to Kalisto
The match would be quick, simple, easy, and to the point with every single person getting their own sessions in. If we could've seen #BeanieClub win it would've been amazing but you can't have Heel vs Heel storyline so it would make sense to have Apollo Crews win since he was riding off the momentum from winning the Battle Royal last week. Plus thsi feud would help Crews in many ways as the two things Crews is lacking is character and mic skills. At the very least Miz would be able to bring the character out of Crews, but he is more than capable of bringing Crews's mic skills out as well.
Main Event:
Here we have the Show Off Dolph Ziggler taking on the Eater of Worlds Bray Wyatt. This was a beatifully told match both wrestling wise and storywise, as we got to see Bray's character implemented in a way that Dolph couldn't handle. Also once Dolph came out on top which we will get to in a second, it showed his underdog character finally showing that last week's win wasn't a fluke and it was the real business. As for Bray Wyatt its almost confirmed that after SummerSlam the one next in line for a shot at the title and a possible win is Bray Wyatt. Just imagine him doing his spider walk with the title inside his mouth, what a sight. After the match Erick Rowan would come out to attack Dolph Ziggler, and then Dean Ambrose would come for the save only to be planted by Rowan. Then Bray Wyatt would take Ziggler, and hit him with a Sister Abigail. That's How You End a Show.
